Jaguar pulls back the curtain on the Type 01’s cabin, and it is every bit as dramatic as the company promised
Singapore – Jaguar has given us our first proper look inside the Type 01, and if the exterior was the opening act of the brand’s reinvention, the cabin appears determined to steal the show.
Revealed ahead of the car’s full debut in New York on 6 October 2026, the Type 01’s interior takes Jaguar’s new design philosophy rather literally. There is drama, theatre and plenty of architecture going on – because apparently simply making a nice dashboard was no longer enough.
At the heart of it all is a dramatic central spine that runs the full length of the cabin. Rather than following the increasingly familiar horizontal dashboard-and-screen arrangement seen across the industry, Jaguar has gone longitudinal, using the spine to divide the cabin into four individual spaces.
It is a bold move, and one that gives the Type 01’s interior a distinctly concept-car-like character, despite this being a production-bound machine.

A cabin built around the driver
Jaguar says the interior has been designed to create a cossetting and confidence-inspiring driving position. The seating position is deliberately low, while the cabin is shaped to ‘shrink’ around the driver.
That should come as welcome news in an era where many SUVs and electric cars seem intent on making occupants feel as though they are sitting in the control room of a small office building.
The Type 01, instead, is being positioned as a luxury four-door GT, and Jaguar wants the driving experience to feel as special as the surroundings.
The interior design also borrows from architecture and materials rather than simply throwing another collection of screens at the occupants. Jaguar says the tonal palette is influenced by the enduring beauty of travertine stone, with rich textures inspired by artisan textiles.
It all sounds rather more boutique hotel than motor car. Which, considering Jaguar’s ambitions for the Type 01, is probably precisely the point.

The leaper takes centre stage
There is, naturally, a Jaguar leaper involved.
The signature feline is incorporated into the central architectural spine, which features a brass-inspired finish. The same treatment continues along the tops of the doors, with the leaper appearing as part of what Jaguar describes as signature art pieces running the length of the cabin.
Jaguar’s Chief Interior Designer, Thomas Holden, says the approach is intended to translate the exterior design philosophy into the cabin, with the central spine acting as the interior’s architectural statement.
The result, Jaguar says, is a cabin built around authentic materials, flowing surfaces and technology that appears when required rather than dominating the entire experience.

Technology, but with restraint
Jaguar says infotainment technology has been integrated into the architecture rather than becoming the architecture itself. Digital interfaces are positioned for what the company calls ‘control on demand’, helping maintain the clean and sophisticated appearance of the cabin.
One particularly interesting feature is the digital ClearSight Rear View Display, mounted centrally at the base of the windscreen and positioned at roughly the same height as the door mirrors.
The idea is to allow the driver to keep their focus forward while still having access to the rear view.
There are also concealed compartments, hidden technology and occasional flashes of colour intended to create what Jaguar describes as unexpected moments within the cabin.
In other words, there should be more to discover than simply asking the car where the nearest charging station is.

A new Jaguar, inside and out
The Type 01 is more than another new Jaguar model. According to the carmaker, it is the first production car to follow its new creative philosophy and the first Jaguar to be built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA.
Even the name carries a bit of baggage.
‘Type’ references Jaguar’s legendary predecessors, while the ‘0’ represents zero tailpipe emissions and the ‘1’ signifies the first of a new generation.
Designed, developed and built in the UK, the four-door GT is intended to demonstrate what Jaguar can do with an architecture created specifically for the brand, allowing its designers to rethink proportions, dynamics and the experience inside the car.
That is a fairly large pair of shoes to fill.

The big reveal is coming
Before the Type 01 makes its official world debut, the prototype will appear in North America wearing a distinctive new wrap during Monterey Car Week, culminating in an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours on 16 August.
Jaguar will fully reveal the Type 01 in New York on 6 October 2026.
But for now, the interior gives us a rather intriguing preview of where Jaguar is heading. There is certainly no shortage of ambition here, and thankfully, it doesn’t look like Jaguar has simply taken the usual luxury-car recipe, added a few screens and called it revolutionary.
The Type 01 appears to be doing something considerably more interesting: treating the cabin as architecture, rather than merely somewhere to put four seats.

And if Jaguar can make the thing drive with as much conviction as it seems to have designed it, we might finally have the beginning of a rather interesting new chapter for the brand with the big cat.
