The .2 version of the 992 generation Porsche 911 has more speed, power and technology… and the price to match too

Singapore – The facelifted and revamped version of the 992 generation Porsche 911 was unveiled at ArtSpace @ HeluTrans on 13 February. Since it was the lead-up to Valentine’s Day a red-themed room, filled with roses, was the order of the day.

The particular unit on display was finished in a vibrant colour dubbed Lugano Blue and also features the optional Sport Classic wheels.

Dubbed the 992.2, this new and improved generation of 911 features twin-turbochargers obtained from the previous generation 992.1 GTS and charge air-coolers from the 992.1 Turbo. Thanks to these modifications, the 911 Carrera is a greener car, producing less in carbon emissions, while still being able to blast from nought to 100 km/h in 4.1s. But of-course you will want to load up on the optional Sport Chrono package, which will bump performance, reducing your century sprint to 3.9 seconds.

The exterior features several prominent differences from the pre-facelift model. The rear design has been made cleaner with the introduction of a more angular lightbar, while the movement of the license plate holder from the exhaust tips, to the middle of the bumper also contributes to its more aggressive posture. At the front, where there used to be a separate foglight on the front bumper for the indicator lights, the indicators have now been integrated with the headlights themselves to accommodate larger cooling vents.

Porsche offers these redesigned headlights with HD-Matrix LED technology as an optional extra. With more than 32,000 light points, the upgraded beam can illuminate the road to more than 600 metres ahead. It further enhances drivers’ line of sight with driving-mode-dependent dynamic cornering lighting, lane brightening, roadworks and narrow-lane lighting, and an advanced high beam system.

On the inside, purists may be disheartened to hear that the signature twist-to-start key fob function has been replaced with a more generic start button. However, the upgraded 911 has been refined with new connectivity features as part of the new Porsche Driver Experience. This includes wireless smartphone charging, while Apple CarPlay interface has been neatly integrated with the infotainment screen. Apps such as Spotify and Apple Music can be enjoyed directly in the PCM without needing to connect a smartphone. For the first time, drivers and passengers can stream videos while parked as an optional extra.

Moreover, Porsche has also done away with the analogue rev counter, in favour of a fully digital dashboard. Jonathan Lim, who is a Porsche Pro with the brand, mentioned that the increased flexibility of information display to the driver, ensures that this is more of a trade-off than an outright loss.

Enthusiasts may also choose the 911 Carrera S, which comes with a more powerful 473hp twin-turbocharged flat-six and a greater range of standard equipment.

Alternatively, purists who crave the raw feeling of a stick-shift can opt for the six-speed manual-only 911 Carrera ‘Touring’ or ‘T’ variant, which prioritises emotional driving experiences and weight-savings.

The Porsche 911 Carrera starts at $569,268 before COE and options, while the Carrera T and Carrera S variants start at $620,488 and $682,988 respectively.
