With even more brands and aggressive sales tactics from Chinese brands, is it a little too late for the Americans?

Singapore – With BYD usurping Tesla as the top-selling EV brand in 2024, a change in Tesla’s lineup is long overdue, and the American automaker has done just that. Tesla Singapore has just launched the revised Tesla Model Y, at ION Orchard for its first appearance in the Asia Pacific Region.

The Model Y, when first introduced in 2020, shared much of its head and tail design elements with the Model 3. The updated Model Y features a lower bonnet line and a sleek new headlight profile reminiscent of the famed Cybertruck. It also features attractive and futuristic-looking “light-bar” taillights which are a headturner.

The interior’s minimalist styling has been uplifted by an ambient lighting display, enveloping the entire cabin. The steering wheel has been lifted from the latest refreshed Model 3, while it retains its familiar 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. As for ear passengers, they would be pleased to know that they now have their very own touchscreen for seat control, climate control, music and more.

Tesla has also made further efforts to ensure a smooth and quiet driving experience, through upgraded seals and soundproofing that reduce wind and road noise by 20-percent and 22-percent respectively. Speaking of sound, the car’s updated sound system features 16 speakers and one subwoofer, which guarantee an immersive audio experience.

Practicality hasn’t been forgotten either, as the Model Y’s hands-free boot offers a gargantuan 2,130 litres of boot space with the rear seats folded down. Conveniently, for those hauling large items, the seats fold forward with the simple push of a button.

The RWD variant puts out a healthy 255kW (342hp), which allows the car to accelerate to 100km/h in a sprightly 5.9 seconds, enabling you to zip around Singapore’s city streets with ease. Subtle tweaks to the exterior shape have also improved aerodynamics, which has elevated the RWD and Long Range variants’ range to 466km and 551km respectively on a full charge.

At launch, the RWD variant retails for $223,127, while the Long Range variant for $247,251, both inclusive of COE.
