The Aion V delivers German standards of luxury, but for a fraction of the price

Singapore – Chinese manufacturer GAC AION has officially launched the all-new AION V Luxury on Singapore soil. Being marketed as a family lifestyle car to be used for more than just day-to-day errands, the launch featured an elaborate rock climbing wall and an off-road facade.

And yes, you read the headline right: its design is modelled after a T-Rex, incorporating sharp edges and a range of geometric shapes, which gives it a boxy but smooth-flowing appearance. This is complemented by elegant 19-inch 8-spoke alloy wheels and sharp-looking LED headlights and taillights.

A highlight of the new AION V Luxury is its newly developed Integrated Power Unit that consumes just 14.1 kWh/100 km. This gives the car a Category A SUV-leading 485 km range, which could be in theory, enough to travel from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur on a single charge. The advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate battery also supports up to 180 kW DC charging. It delivers up to 300 km of range in just 15 minutes, which makes it the fastest-charging electric SUV in Category A too.

AION has also ensured that the โ€œLuxuryโ€ badge fitted on this new model is not just for show, as it contains an unexpected number of gizmos for a Category A car. The front seats have a massage function with 5 modes of choice, and even have an โ€œInstant Bed Modeโ€ where the seats can convert into a fully reclining bed. The rear seats too, can recline up to 137 degrees for a sofa-like experience.

Moreover, a refrigerator with three adjustable modes, Warm, Chill, and Freeze, can collectively maintain temperatures ranging from -15ยฐC to 50ยฐC, making it a lifesaver for storing cool beverages in Singaporeโ€™s blazing hot weather. AION also recognises the value of working on the move for many clients and has included a folding table behind the driverโ€™s seat that transforms the car into an office on wheels.

Furthermore, the car has been equipped with superior soundproofing materials that reduce road noise and ensure a quiet and stress-free experience for the occupants. If the occupants desire, however, they can utilise AIONโ€™s Premium Sound Solutions (PSS*) 9 Speaker Systemโ€‹โ€‹ that contains 8-inch subwoofers and creates an immersive audio experience.โ€‹

Many of these functions can be conveniently activated through English or (interestingly) Thai voice commands. AIONโ€™s smart infotainment system offers advanced route planning and charging station information through its state-of-the-art 3D map interface developed by HERE. It also supports Apple CarPlay, and will add Android Auto and Spotify to its array through an over-the-air update after July 2025.

This modelโ€™s driver assistance features and real-time monitoring of the carโ€™s surroundings will also come in handy on highways or in heavy-traffic situations, thus easing the driverโ€™s workload and enhancing the carโ€™s safety. This is in addition to the AION V Luxuryโ€™s high-strength body structure that has been engineered to meet EURO NCAP 5-Star safety standards. AIONโ€™s Magazine Battery 2.0 Technology also contains an industry-leading bulletproof, fire-resistant design that has been fitted on more than 1 million AION EVs without a single thermal incident, according to Yu Yong, Senior Product Manager of AION Automobile Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

Luxury hasnโ€™t been at the expense of practicality either, as the car contains 427-litres of cargo space, which can be increased to 987 litres when the need to haul big items arises. The V Luxuryโ€™s electric tailgate also features adjustable opening heights, ensuring maximum convenience tailored towards different users.

The new Aion V retails for $174,988, inclusive of COE. If youโ€™re interested, you can secure a special promotion for the car from February 25 to March 5, 2025, where you can receive a $6,000 discount and free upgrades to a 10-year battery warranty and 10 years of free servicing.
