BYD Singapore is on a product offensive. The SEALION 6 DM-i, the brand’s first Plug-in Hybrid SUV here, promises flexible hybrid efficiency

Singapore – Just a year ago, BYD attained the position of Singapore’s top-selling car brand. And those who know, would know that they have shown no signs of stopping. On a warm sunny afternoon at the glitzy Shangri-La Hotel, BYD unveiled their first plug-in hybrid, the BYD SEALION 6 DM-i Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

The BYD SEALION 6 is the brand’s answer to drivers who seek an electric-first experience, without the range anxiety associated with battery electric vehicles. The SUV is powered by BYD’s proprietary DM-i Super Hybrid system, which we got a preview of earlier this year. This pairs BYD’s signature Blade Battery with an output of 18.3 kWh, with a 1.5 litre high-efficiency petrol engine.

On its own, the 1.5 litre engine produces 97hp (72kW) and 122Nm, while the front-mounted motor delivers 194hp (145kW) and 300Nm. On its own, the electric drive is able to deliver up to 80km of range. In all, the SEALION 6 delivers an impressive combined range of 1,100km.

“The launch of the BYD SEALION 6 DM-i marks a pivotal moment for BYD in Singapore,” said Mr James Ng, Managing Director of BYD Singapore and Philippines. He also added, “We’ve led Singapore’s electric vehicle transition by offering high-value, fully electric models like the BYD ATTO 3, SEALION 7 and M6 — and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.” “However, we understand that electrification is a journey and that journey looks different for every driver. Some are ready to go fully electric while others still face practical challenges such as charging access or range confidence. The BYD SEALION 6 DM-i is our answer to those needs.”.

The BYD SEALION 6 is also a breeze to drive within Singapore’s tighter confines, boasting a turn radius of just 5.5m. On the inside, occupants are greeted by a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity, and dual wireless chargers for mobile devices. Premium audio is courtesy of a Infinity® sound system. Other creature spoils include panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.

Active and passive safety equipment includes a 360-degree camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, a full range of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), and also six airbags.

“As Singapore continues its transition to low-emission mobility, it’s critical to offer solutions that give consumers confidence in taking the step to more sustainable mobility.” said Mr Anthony Teo, Managing Director of VAL. “The BYD SEALION 6 DM-i combines the quiet, efficient driving experience of an EV with the familiarity and practicality of a hybrid, making it especially appealing to those who are new to electrified vehicles. This model is about reducing hesitation, breaking barriers and bringing more people into the world of sustainable driving through smart and approachable innovation.”

The BYD SEALION 6 DM-i retails at showrooms islandwide for S$212,888 with guaranteed COE.
