The new EV Academy aims to produce more than just mechanics, preparing students for the rapidly growing world of electric mobility

Singapore – Selling electric cars is one thing. Having enough people who actually know how to fix, service and support them is another altogether.

That’s why Volt Auto, the exclusive distributor of Dongfeng passenger vehicles in Singapore, has teamed up with Temasek Polytechnic (TP) to launch the Temasek Polytechnic–Volt Auto EV Academy, a new training initiative aimed at building Singapore’s next generation of EV professionals.

The partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 31 July, combines TP’s expertise in applied learning with Volt Auto’s industry know-how. The idea is simple: give students and working professionals hands-on experience with modern electric vehicle technology, rather than just learning about it in a classroom.

To help make that happen, Volt Auto is contributing a Dongfeng VIGO electric SUV along with its proprietary EV diagnostic equipment. Students will also have opportunities to take part in internships, job shadowing and structured on-the-job training across Volt Auto’s partner network.

But this isn’t just about producing more EV technicians. The Academy will also prepare learners for emerging roles including EV consultants, pre-delivery inspectors, detailing specialists and accident service advisors — careers that barely existed a decade ago but are becoming increasingly important as Singapore’s electric vehicle population grows.

Training is expected to begin in October 2026, with courses available to both full-time diploma students and adult learners. The curriculum will be co-delivered by certified trainers and designed to keep pace with an EV industry that’s evolving almost as quickly as the cars themselves.

As Singapore edges closer to an electrified future, charging stations may be grabbing the headlines. But without skilled people behind the scenes to keep those EVs running, that transition becomes a much harder drive. The new TP–Volt Auto EV Academy hopes to ensure the country’s future workforce is just as ready as the cars they’re going to be working on.
