Titus learns of Mercedes-Benz’s literal new spin on the new G-Class, as he brings you the low-down on MB’s 50-ish year old all-new SUV
Singapore – Mercedes-Benz Singapore has unveiled the complete G-Class line-up for the first time through G-HAUS, a pop-up event that took place 1-3 August at Gillman Barracks. On top of a cafe by ÁTIPICO, a merchandise boutique, personalised leather charms and a photo wall, customers and fans were able to experience the latest members of the G-Class’ family up close through demonstrations and showcases. This blend of heritage, innovation and lifestyle marks a new chapter for Mercedes-Benz in Singapore, where its brand appeal expands to both loyal enthusiasts and luxury SUV drivers.

Since its inception in 1970, the G-Class has been an automotive icon of strength, individuality, and timeless design. With a leading position among luxury off-roaders, the model series now offers the most diverse drive portfolio of all time and almost limitless customisation options, all while retaining its unmistakable character and appearance. The latest family members are the all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology, the G 500, as well as the iconic-for-glam-shi-shi-reasons Mercedes-AMG G 63.

Based on the tried-and-tested ladder-frame concept, these G-Class models ensure toughness, with high-ground clearance and long-travel suspension. Apart from redesigned bumpers and front grilles and other subtle modifications, the latest developments leave its iconic design unchanged, with the unmistakable angular shape, distinctive door handles, an exposed spare wheel on the rear door, and protruding indicator lights on the front fenders.

The interior of the G-Class takes exterior design elements into the interior, including round, illuminated side air vents. Nappa leather upholstery, a multifunctional steering wheel, ambient lighting for the air vents and a Burmester 3D surround sound system, creates a striking harmony between off-road ruggedness and luxurious lounging.

For the first time, all model variants will come equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system that features a 12.3-inch driver and media touchscreen displays, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation also comes standard, where graphical navigation and traffic information is superimposed on live images. Voice assistance capable of dialogue and learning is also present, with around 20 voice commands created exclusively for use in the all-new G-Class.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology allows the brand to herald the first fully electric variant of the icon. A 116kWh battery delivering 491km of WLTP range has been integrated into the ladder frame to ensure a low centre of gravity. With four individually controlled electric motors to develop a total output of 432kW (579bhp) and 1164Nm of torque to complete the century sprint in 4.7 seconds, the electric G 580 can also perform a “G-Turn”, where it can spin on the spot for up to two complete turns to aid in getting out of dead ends or avoiding obstacles. Intelligent G-Steering can also significantly reduce the turning circle through targeted control of the drive torque at the individual driven wheels. The Intelligent Offroad Crawl function provides propulsion on loose surfaces with a maintained pre-set speed – think of it as cruise control for the outback.

The G 500 is a mild-hybrid modern evolution of the icon, powered by a 3-litre inline-six cylinder engine and electrified with a 48-volt-on-board electrical system for increased performance and reduced consumption. With twin-turbocharging and an electric auxiliary compressor, it produces 330kW (449hp) and 560Nm of torque. The integrated starter-generators (ISG) deliver additional 15kW (20hp) of power and 200Nm of torque, while feeding the onboard electrical system.
For even more oomph, comes the all-new Mercedes-AMG G 63. With new AMG Active Ride Control suspension, buyers will be offered an even greater spread between dynamic on-road performance and excellent off-road expertise. Powered by a 4-litre V8 biturbo engine and supported by a 48V mild-hybrid system, 585 horsepower lets you finish the 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 4.3 seconds. In pure AMG-language, comes the standard-fit AMG Performance three-twin-spoke steering wheel in nappa leather with touch-control surfaces. AMG carbon-fibre trim elements, and AMG logos dotted around the interior of the car come standard as well.
“Our momentum in 2025 reflects a sharpened portfolio, strategic focus and the unwavering trust of our customers. The G-Class family — comprising the all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology, G 500 and Mercedes AMG G 63 — exemplifies this strength as a compelling part of our top-end vehicle offering,” said Marcel Luis Mustelier Perez, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Singapore. “Our Top-End Vehicle segment which includes icons like the S-Class, GLS, Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-AMG, and of course, the legendary G-Class — has nearly doubled in volume, achieving close to 100% year-on-year growth.”

Prices for the G500 and G580 currently start from $782,888, while the G63 is priced from $1,062,888, both figures inclusive of COE.
