With “emas” meaning gold in Malay, Proton promises to offer the “gold” standard of EV motoring in Singapore

Singapore – Eleven years after shutting its doors in Singapore, Malaysian carmaker Proton has finally made a comeback under VINCAR Group, with the release of its very first electric vehicle dubbed the e.MAS 7.

The NEW e.MAS 7 represents Proton’s strong partnership with Geely and the marque’s commitment to innovation, with the model undergoing more than 700,000 man-hours of development and 100,000 km of testing across a variety of terrain and weather conditions.

“The launch of Proton e.MAS in Singapore represents a bold new chapter for both Proton and VINCAR Group. We are proud to reintroduce this iconic brand through a model that is stronger, smarter, and all-electric — a symbol of our shared commitment to shaping the future of mobility in Singapore “ said Ernest Tan, Deputy CEO of VINCAR Group.

Proton has ensured that the e.MAS 7 stays true to its local roots, with the marque stating that the design has been inspired by the Malayan tiger. Bold tiger-eye headlights are complemented with elegant C-shaped whisker lights on the front, while smooth body lines give a sense of speed and agility.

The interior features an ultra-large 15.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen for an intuitive infotainment display, which is complemented by a 10.2-inch LCD instrument panel and a 13.8-inch Windshield Head-Up Display which both display real-time driving information. The infotainment comes with Apple Carplay, which will be joined by Wireless Android Auto via an over-the-air update by the end of this year.

Additionally, the Flyme Sound system features 16 premium speakers that create an immersive audio experience, with occupants able to choose from four modes: Opera House, Recording Studio, Music Hall, and Concert.

The faux leather seats’ 5-layer cushion construction are made to provide adequate support. Additionally, the front seats are ventilated and fully reclinable, while the rear features 2 recline levels. Practicality wise, the car’s 2750mm wheelbase creates a comfortable and spacious interior, while the trunk offers 461l of space, which increases to 1877l with the 2nd row of seats folded down. A large 1.18 square-metre sunroof and an electrically operated rear tailgate come as standard on the Premium trim. Furthermore, the boot is complemented by 33 storage spaces that can store any additional items.

The E.MAS 7’s lightweight electric powertrain offers 160kW (214hp) and 320Nm of torque. Prime variants are equipped with a 49.52kWh battery, enough for a WLTP combined range of 345km, while premium variants come with a 60.22kWh battery that offer 410km of range. Both variants feature Geely’s state-of-the-art “Aegis” short blade design which can achieve up to 3500 charge cycles, promising an estimated 1,000,000km lifespan. Its “Cell to Body” design also ensures enhanced vehicle rigidity and increased battery safety.

On the topic of safety, the e.MAS 7 achieved a score of 92.57 in the ASEAN NCAP Test, more than enough for a 5-star rating. Drivers are also aided with Intelligence Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, the Rear Side Radar Assist System and the Collision Mitigation Braking System by their side.

Fast charging is offered in both DC and AC. Charging power of up to 80kW and 100kW are available respectively for Prime and Premium, and both allow a rapid 30%-80% recharge in just 20 minutes. The Onboard Charger’s 11kW capacity is up to 50% faster in AC charging compared to its closest competitors. With its increased electric output combined with its high efficiency electric powertrain of up to 90.4%, the e.MAS7 promises a fast but smooth drive, with 0-100km/h being completed in just 6.9s.

At time of publication, the Proton e.MAS7 Prime is priced attractively at just $175,988 including COE, while the Premium variant comes at just $4,000 more at $179,988 including COE.
