The fourth generation Skoda Superb is only available in Singapore as an Estate. But will a Combi-nation of versatility and a feature-filled interior entice an SUV-leaning crowd?

Singapore – The all-new fourth generation of the Škoda Superb Combi is now available in Singapore. With lower demand for sedans, Škoda Singapore has made the decision to only have the Estate car as the only option. The Superb Combi arrives just in time for Škoda to celebrate its 130th anniversary, and Škoda has assured that this new model epitomises the brand’s strong reputation of meticulous engineering and innovation.

Featuring sharp lines and sleek proportions, this new generation showcases a neat evolution of the brand’s design language while still unmistakably looking like a Škoda. It features state-of-the-art LED Matrix Beam headlights that nicely complement an all-new vertical octagonal grille for an aggressive-looking front end. The new thinner tailights are sleek and look the part, too.

Refreshingly, the Superb Combi’s interior is free of my biggest pet peeve: one ginormous screen that seeks to offer a one-stop shop for each and every function, but instead makes every small adjustment to the car long and cumbersome. Instead, it contains an appropriately-sized 13-inch infotainment screen while retaining three innovative physical Škoda Smart Dials. These dials allow the user to toggle climate, seat, audio and drive mode settings seamlessly without scrolling through layers of digital menus.

To ensure maximum comfort, the Superb Combi for Singapore is equipped with Škoda’s luxury Laurin & Klement trim. Thus, its leather upholstery has been tanned using olive processing byproducts, which Škoda claims to be both high-quality and environmentally friendly. Front passengers can find pleasure in the AGR-certified ergonomic front seats, which are not only ventilated but can also be electrically adjusted in any direction.

As if the previous generation Superb Combi wasn’t spacious enough, this new generation is now taller and 40mm longer, which offers even more headroom and legroom for front and rear passengers than before. With up to 1,920 litres of boot space and a multi-use storage pocket under the boot cover, it offers class-leading capacity for those hauling large items from A to B or on road trips with their families.

Powertrain-wise, the Superb Combi features the group’s proven 1.5 TSI mild hybrid (MHEV) engine, good for 150hp. Minor improvements to the MHEV system sees a 10-percent increase in power, due to innovations in cooling. The mild hybrid system’s efficiency has also been raised from 80% to 86%, allowing for reduced fuel consumption. Putting drive to the wheels, Škoda has paired the engine with the robust DQ381 (wet clutch) DSG, a carry-over from the facelifted variant of the previous car.

On the handling front, the Superb is equipped with the new-generation DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) Plus system. This utilises shock absorbers with two independent valves that separate compression damping control and rebound damping control. This replaces the previous system where a single valve was used for both functions, thus extending the range of damping characteristics while improving shock absorber response.

As for safety, the Superb Combi ensures a thorough offering of driver-assistance functions by adding Travel Assist 2.0 to the existing Front and Side Assist features.

“The Superb has set the benchmark high ever since the model line was first introduced, and this new generation continues that legacy,” says David Nah, Brand Director of Škoda Singapore. “We are delighted to offer the Superb Combi to customers in Singapore for the very first time. With a compelling package of style, refinement and technology, we believe the Superb Combi will continue to set itself apart.”
